Every generation finds its own way to show up. In the early 1940s, it was young people going door to door, turning neighborhoods into a coordinated home front effort that stretched from the biggest cities to the smallest towns. The Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA organized what became one of the most visible efforts of everyday generosity during the World War II era. The spirit behind it is still recognizable today. #GenerosityBuilds

Our veterans made a lifelong commitment to this country. A permanent home is a community saying: Now it's our turn. Steven Mitchell is a Marine Corps veteran and a carpenter who has called Sarasota home since 2009. When he found Heroes' Village, the city's first affordable housing complex built entirely for veterans, it changed what was possible for him. "Having the time to not have to worry so much about rent and bills has enabled me to concentrate on finally finding something that's a career," he said. "And on top of that, taking care of my health." Heroes' Village started with a conversation between donors and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in 2020. Today, 10 veterans live there permanently, paying no more than 30% of their income on rent for as long as they choose to call it home. Get the story at the link in bio.

When Fordville's grocery store closed, communities across North Dakota's small towns had to find a solution that would keep food on the table. Five communities found out what was possible when they worked together, and now other rural communities across the country are exploring their model. #GenerosityBuilds

The week after Thanksgiving last year, Arizona Community Foundation Vice President Kim Covington and a team of ACF leaders hit the road to drive across the state. They traveled from one Arizona food bank to another, and came bearing gifts. Each food bank received a donation on behalf of Arizona's community donors, in thanks for their work. At their stop in the small desert town of Quartzsite, they drove the streets looking for a grocery store and found none, demonstrating the food bank's critical role. "The challenge is still great, but the generosity of our donors in this moment has surpassed all my expectations," said ACF President and CEO Anna María Chávez. Food banks face more demand than any one of them can meet on its own, and Community foundations make sure they don't have to. Discover the story: #GenerosityBuilds

Five generations have farmed the land at Highland Family Farms in Mapleton, Minnesota. For Pat and Kristin Duncanson, the generosity is meant to last just as long. Each fall, before the harvest goes to market, the first load goes to the community. With support from the Mankato Area Foundation, that annual promise has become a charitable strategy grown from the land itself. #GenerosityBuilds

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania has some of the most productive farmland in the country. For centuries it has fed families, built communities and shaped a way of life that still defines this corner of America. With support from Lancaster Farmland Trust and Lancaster County Community Foundation, the community is building a place where students, families and farmers can connect with that heritage and understand that it's worth protecting for the generations that come after them. #GenerosityBuilds

American farms have fed this nation since its founding. The investments that keep those farms thriving and the families who tend them are part of a long tradition of generosity that runs as deep as the land itself. #GenerosityBuilds

Battle Creek Public Schools was serving the city's highest-need students with fewer resources than any other public school district in the city. The district had real strengths and a superintendent who already knew what it could become. What it needed was a partner willing to invest in that vision. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation committed $51 million over five years to the city it has called home since 1930. What the district built with that generosity reaches students from their first day of kindergarten all the way through college. #GenerosityBuilds
