This is a historic day for British Columbia and a big win for B.C. workers.
David Eby got this deal done. Thousands of good jobs, billions in revenue for our hospitals and schools, and a stronger Canada built right here at home. 🇨🇦
Let's keep building B.C. strong, together.
“Our plan targets support to help businesses stay afloat in rough waters and for them to hire young people looking for their first job. That’s how we build B.C. strong for everyone," said BC NDP Leader David Eby.
#BREAKING: David Eby and Prime Minister Carney have landed a historic energy deal for British Columbia.
LNG Canada Phase 2 has the final green light.
That means up to 4,000 construction jobs and an estimated $50 billion to fund public services. Countries like Japan and Germany are buying B.C. gas because it's among the lowest-emitting in the world.
Support for Phase 2 was part of an agreement Eby and Carney signed in July. B.C.'s conservative parties opposed the agreement when it was signed.
The announcement comes a day after Eby pledged in Prince Rupert to double B.C.'s critical mineral exports within five years and expand the Port of Prince Rupert.
